Dr. David Lazar is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery. Skilled at diagnosing the eye for retinal tears or macular degeneration, Dr. Lazar performs innovative treatments that can alleviate painful symptoms and reduce discomfort. As a medical graduate from Tel Aviv University and with many prestigious fellowships, Dr. Lazar utilizes his years of education to help patients overcome advanced eye issues. Dr. Lazar offers a patient-centered perspective and enjoys helping patients feel knowledgeable and confident about their nonsurgical and surgical treatment options.
EDUCATION
Dr. Lazar received his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and graduated with a medical degree from Tel Aviv University. Following his medical doctorate, Dr. Lazar completed a prestigious internship at the Louisiana State University's Ochsner Clinical Foundation and then attended his residency here. During his residency, he served as chief resident. To further his education, Dr. Lazar specialized in vitreoretinal surgery at Lahey Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. While there, he served as a clinical associate at Tufts University School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School.
As an active researcher, Dr. Lazar regularly presents his innovative findings at conferences throughout the U.S., including:

Currently, he works as a co-investigator in several nationwide clinical trials for the treatments of dry and wet macular degeneration.
SPECIALTIES AND EXPERTISE
Dr. Lazar is an expert vitreoretinal specialist and surgeon. He has experience diagnosing retina and vitreous eye conditions, including macular degeneration, macular holes, macular pucker, retinal tears and detachments, vein occlusions, posterior vitreous detachment, and diabetic retinopathy. He starts by comprehensively evaluating symptoms and providing treatment plans that meet patients' needs. To help treat these conditions, he is skilled at performing laser vitreolysis, retinal laser treatment, retinal injections, vitrectomy, and scleral buckle surgery.
